ADA Services

We comply with State and Federal laws on ADA compliance. With that being said, however, the state of Iowa only accommodates emotional support animals (ESA’s) and service animals in training for the purposes of home/lodging.

What does this mean for you, the attendee at Anime Nebraskon? Only service animals who are fully trained are allowed on the convention floor at this time. Emotional Support Animals and Service Animals in training will be asked to be removed from the convention floor back to the attendee’s hotel room/home. If fully trained Service Animals become overwhelmed, start barking, lose control of their bowels/bladder, then they MUST go off the convention floor for a minimum of 4 hours before they will be allowed to return.

What does “go off the convention floor” mean? This means that the service animal must leave the Mid-America Center and either go to a quiet space in a hotel room, your car, or otherwise outside away from the crowds so they can calm down, reset and concentrate on doing their job as a service animal. The handler can continue to attend the event on their own if they so wish without their service animal while it is off the floor, as long as they understand that the 4 hour minimum is for the safety and respect of the service animal being able to continue to work and perform the tasks they were trained to do once they are calmed back down.

Mobility Aids: At this time Anime Nebraskon does not provide any mobility aids to rent or borrow for the weekend. The Mid-America Center also does not provide this service. However, there is a company in Council Bluffs called Cloud of Goods that does provide this service for a fee and they have a variety of mobility aids to choose from, we politely request you inquire with them to see if they have something that fits your needs for the weekend.

Other ADA services at the convention: Paneling does have specific seating for wheelchairs, and attendees with other mobility aids. Speak to the Anime Nebraskon staff at the entrance to the panel room before the panel starts for this seating. If there is no staff member at the panel room entrance, usually the front row is for ADA seating. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Anime Nebraskon staff if you encounter issues with this.

We also offer a badge ribbon for the person who will need assistance. This Badge Ribbon is year specific, and allows the badge ribbon holder and one other person of their choice to accompany them to the front of the line behind VIP holders for the following events: Paneling such as Opening/Closing Ceremonies, Guest panels. Guest Autographs. To get this badge ribbon, you must come to the First Aid room and speak with Barb.

2024: Vendor Hall hours: Accessibility ribbon holders will be able to queue up behind VIP badge holders and will be allowed in after the VIP badge holders this year during the VIP Vendors Hall time.

Closed Caption assistance for Hearing Impaired: We are working towards getting a closed caption system for Main Stage paneling such as Opening/Closing Ceremonies and other main paneling. Please bear with us as we may not be able to offer this service in full for all paneling as the majority of our panels are fan run and may use their own equipment to present their panel. This is a work in progress so please be patient with us. We are not able to offer on site Sign Language interpreters.
