Artist Alley
Selection Process
1) Application
Once the Vendor’s Hall Artist Alley applications are open, they will remain open for the following three weeks for artists to apply. The information required to apply includes a portfolio of the artist’s work, as well as three images to be used as examples in the Artist Selection Period.
2) Review
The portfolio is used as an initial review of the artists work, and to screen for plagiarism by Vendor’s Hall staff and other Anime NebrasKon Leadership before the selection process. In the event that an Artist is found to have falsified or plagiarized any part of their application or work in their portfolio will immediately be removed from the application pool. In the event that an applicant was removed for plagiarism, the artist will be removed from consideration until such time they have demonstrated that they are no longer plagiarizing other artist’s work. Anime NebrasKon considers two years a reasonable amount of time for the artist to change their portfolio to demonstrate original art.
The three images used as examples of an Artist’s work will be provided to members of the artist alley selection committee anonymously to encourage a fair judging process. As such, any images containing identities of artists or photos of prior artist tables, or artwork featuring logos more prominent than watermarks may be removed from consideration on a case by case basis. Artists are encouraged to submit collages of their works as single images to give the artist selection committee a greater idea of the quality and expanse of their art.
3) Organization of Artist Applications
Once the artists application period is over, each individual application is reviewed and placed into one of four categories based on the type of art sold. The four categories are:
prints
Where the majority of artwork sold consists of printed artwork, either as posters, small charms, or buttons.
3d Art
Where the majority of artwork sold are three-dimensional merchandise, which can include plushies or elaborate charms.
Cosplay / Apparel
Where the majority of artwork sold are wearable items or accessories, which can include furry gear, cosplay props, hats, etc.
Miscellaneous
Where the majority of artwork sold doesn’t fall under any of the prior categories.
If an artist is considered to have an equal amount of art between any given category, they may be considered in both categories they qualify in. Afterwards, the Artist Selection Committee are given an amount of votes per each category based on a predetermined amount of tables allotted per category of art.
4) Voting and Notification
Each member of the Artist Selection committee is given a week to review applicants and cast their ballots. After the results are tallied, the Artist Selection Committee is presented with the artists who won the most votes per each category, and are reviewed one last time. ONce approved, emails are sent out to the applicants on the result of their application, and those who are accepted will move onto the Artist payment period over the next few months. If you were not accepted, you will have the option to join the waitlist, submit your items to be sold in the Art Auction, or apply to our ARt Contest for one last shot at winning an artist booth at the Vendor’s Hall that year.
